The clock is ticking. The stakes are high in the final stretch to 2030; there are five years remaining – that is approximately 2,000 days. Two thousand days remaining to rewrite the future for millions of women and children.

Maternal and child mortality remains unacceptably high across sub-Saharan Africa. We are running out of time, and out of excuses. The next five years must be marked by bold, accelerated efforts to save the lives of women and children, and to meet the global SDG goals by 2030.

Dedicated and strong African leadership is necessary to driving progress and keeping the continent on track. At this pivotal moment, African leaders must rally international partners to commit to sustainable solutions that can save the lives of millions of mothers and children. At the just concluded Innovation and Action for Immunization and Child Survival Forum, that took place in Maputo, Mozambique, African leaders demonstrated that they are indeed leading the charge.

Market Access Africa’s capsule report “Leading the Charge: Africa’s Bold Resolution for Women and Children’s Lives” spotlights the power of African leadership — the wins, the gaps, and the path forward in saving women and children. We are proud to spotlight in this report, some of the African leaders whose bold vision and leadership we have been fortunate to accompany over the last 2 years. There is no time for half measures.
